There are several Ice Fishing contests on tap this year for Utah fishermen. Whether you are new to the idea of ice fishing or a regular, these contests provide something for everyone. These fishing contests provide a chance to get together with friends and other fishermen and compete for prizes and bragging rights.
The Fish Lake Perch tournament is set for Saturday, Jan. 24. There is no limit on the number of Perch you can catch and keep. There is no entry fee for this event.
The Burbot Bash at Flaming George Reservoir will be held Jan. 23-25 if the ice is safe. The tournament gives anglers the opportunity to catch as many Burbot as they can and help reduce the numbers of this invasive species.
The Basin Ice Fishing Bowl will be held at Steinaker State Park on Jan. 31 and Starvation State Park on Feb. 7. Check-ins at both parks will begin at 6:30 a.m. and both competitions will run from 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
There is also the Wasatch Back Quad-fishalon which will be held at four different state parks. The tournament will take place at East Canyon Reservoir on Jan. 31, Deer Creek Reservoir on Feb. 7, Rockport Reservoir on Feb. 14 and Jordanelle Reservoir on Feb. 21 and check-in will take place from 6–7 a.m.
You must have a valid Utah Fishing License to participate in these fishing events. Some events are free while others have an entry fee. There will also be representatives at each event to lend help and advice.
These are just a few of the fishing contests offered this year. Check the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources web page for more information on these and other contests throughout the year.
