Many of Utah's fishing waters have restrictions as to the size of fish you are allowed to keep. Some of the more popular waters include the Green River, Provo River, Strawberry Reservoir, Lost Creek Reservoir and Fish Lake, but there are many others. These regulations help maintain a healthy fish population and provide anglers with greater opportunities to catch larger fish. Always check the current fishing regulation before heading out, or better yet keep a copy with you in your tackle box. It is recommend that you always have a tape measure handy so you can measure any fish that you plan to keep. Here is the current guidelines for measuring fish that you catch.
1. Place the fish on its side with the jaw closed.
2. Squeeze the tail fin together or turn it so you can obtain the maximum length overall.
3. Measure a straight line from the tip of the nose to the extreme tip of the tail fin.
It is your responsibility to know the rules and regulations to each body of water that you fish.
